These add-ons are built to be private by design. This policy explains, in plain language, what they do and do not do with data.

What reaches us: nothing

Neither add-on sends anything to us. There is no developer-operated server or backend, no account system, no analytics, no telemetry, no advertising tracker and no tracking pixel. The only network requests either add-on makes are the necessary requests to YouTube described below. Where an add-on has a paid tier, the payment itself is handled by the merchant of record described under Payments — never by the add-on. This is not merely a promise about how your data is handled: there is no developer backend for it to reach.

What the add-ons read on your device

That is not the same as saying they touch no data. To do their job they read content from the YouTube page you have open — video titles, links, channel names, durations, the video description, the caption text itself and the chapter timestamps written in that description — and the page address of the video or playlist you are exporting, so the right one is exported.

All of that happens on your own device, only when you ask for an export, and only to build the file you asked for. The file is saved straight to your computer. That content is never transmitted to the developer, is not kept once the export is done, and is never used for analytics, advertising, profiling or resale. The only network requests involved are the necessary YouTube requests set out below; nothing is sent to unrelated third parties. The add-ons do not read your browsing history, and they run on youtube.com and nowhere else.

There is no analytics, no telemetry, no advertising or conversion tracking, no beacons and no tracking pixels in either add-on. Because none of this data is ever transmitted to us, we hold none of it, and there is no retention period on our side to describe: there is nothing to retain, and nothing to request deletion of.

Requests to YouTube

Both add-ons work by reading the site you are already using, and both make requests to YouTube itself for data about the video or playlist in front of you. The transcript add-on requests the video's own watch page and YouTube's caption (timedtext) endpoint; the playlist add-on may query YouTube's public oEmbed endpoint to fill in a missing channel name. These go to YouTube — the site you are already on — and to nobody else.

As with any request your browser makes to a site you are signed in to, your browser may automatically attach your existing YouTube session cookies to those requests, exactly as it does when the page itself loads. The add-ons cannot read, inspect, store or forward those cookie values: neither one requests cookie access, and neither one can see them. The add-ons never receive or expose those cookies. Chrome sends them only to YouTube as part of the browser-managed request, never to the developer or to any unrelated third party.

How each add-on works

• Playlist Exporter reads the playlist page you have open (video titles, links, channel names, durations) solely to generate the export file, which is saved directly to your own computer. It stores your preferences and licence status in your browser's local extension storage, where they stay on your device.
• Transcript & Subtitle Exporter reads the captions of the video you have open, from YouTube's own transcript panel, and saves them to your computer in the format you choose. It stores nothing at all — it uses no extension storage, no localStorage and no IndexedDB, and does not request storage access. It does not remember which format you last chose, and it holds no licence flag, because it is free and has nothing to unlock.

Payments

Where an add-on has a paid tier, purchases are processed by our merchant of record, a third-party payment provider. Payment details such as card numbers are handled entirely by that provider and never touch the add-on or our systems. The add-on stores only a licence key locally, and verifies it on your own device.

Permissions, explained

Transcript & Subtitle Exporter asks for two permissions:

• Access to youtube.com — required to read the page you have open. It runs nowhere else.
• Active tab — lets the add-on act on the tab you are looking at when you click its button, and on no other tab.

Playlist Exporter asks for those two and, in addition:

• Downloads — saves your export file to your computer. The transcript add-on does not ask for this; it saves through the page itself.
• Storage — keeps your preferences and licence status on your device. The transcript add-on does not ask for this either, because it is free and stores nothing.

Limited Use

The use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Children

These add-ons are not directed at children. Whatever the age of the person using them, the developer does not receive, retain, sell, or build any profile of user data.

Changes to this policy

If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be posted at this address with a new "last updated" date. Because nothing is transmitted to us, changes are expected to be rare.
